Onslow Veterans Powwow
Established in 2019 under the leadership of SgtMaj Raquel Painter, USMC (Ret.) (Santee Sioux/Winnebago), the Onslow Veterans Powwow serves as a vibrant showcase of Native American heritage in the Onslow County area. Moreover, it offers a sense of belonging for Native service men and women stationed at Camp Lejeune, drawn from their respective communities. Beyond a singular event, the Onslow Veterans Powwow embodies a diverse committee dedicated to preserving and promoting Native American culture. In addition to its annual powwow in Jacksonville, North Carolina, the organization actively engages with schools, libraries, and other forums, fostering education and appreciation of Native American culture.
