Clipping of a Goldsboro Daily Argus article from June 3, 1907 on Eliza Dyer. Eliza was Goldsboro's Baby Nurse for the white community and highly regarded. The photo was taken when she was 96 and used to raise money for her to retire in comfort. The photographer was A.O. Clement who sold the photo for .25. The box of Uneeda Biscuits in her lap resulted in Clement sent the photo the biscuit company who in return sent back $5.00 (approximately $175.65 today) to contribute to her comfort. Eliza Dyer passed away at age 100 in 1910 and was the first black person buried in the white cemetery, WillowDale where the residents donated a marker and statue to honor her.
