A crudely carved marble marker was found at the base of a tree in row 12 of the cemetery. Inscribed on the stone was: Joe C.G. Smith, B. Dec 1, 1911, D. Dec 6, 1934, Age 23, At Rest (Outlined in a cruciform pattern), 1935. The base for the gravestone was found about three feet away. There was a socket for the headstone, and “Made by C.G.S. farther [sic]” was carved on the base. (Gleeson, 2002)
