Spinario is the name of the sculpture (Met Museum, Le Gallerie Degli Uffizi) but has been enlarged (original is 84cm/33in--is it larger in the painting?) and embellished by Claesz. (why?). Where did Claesz. encounter the sculpture (reproduction or bronze version in Rome)? Uffizi Gallery describes it as "one of the most popular sculptures of antiquity [during the Renaissance] and...an inspiration for many artists" (https://www.virtualuffizi.com/the-spinario%2C-roman-sculpture-at-the-uffizi-gallery.html). National Gallery of Art engraving from 1581 has same rocky base as in original but more detailed.
