What's the silver oval container to the right of the candlestick holder? Is that a tea strainer (when and from where did tea come to the Netherlands?)? Significance of paper falling off the table at the bottom? Alcohol or not? Do his clothes/chair indicate wealth? Why is the skull falling over? Why is the hourglass more detailed than in other vanitas paintings and does that relate to the lack of contemporary timepiece? Identify the currency.
