Robert M. Hood

Born May 11, 1942, in Sanford, NC; graduated from Sanford Central High in May 1960. Graduated from ECC in June 1964, with a BA degree in Business Administration. Earned an MBA from the University of Montana in 1973.

Commissioned a 2nd Lt. in US Air Force through the AFROTC program at ECC in June 1964. A Distinguished Graduate of both Squadron Officer School (1972) and Air Command and Staff College (1977), and completed his formal military education at the Air War College (1982).

Served in a variety of command and leadership positions, primarily in nuclear missile operations, retiring after 28 years of service in the rank of Colonel. Married to the former Linda Crouse of Greensboro, NC (ECC ’64). Three children: Bryan, Susan, and Kristen. (Bryan was a legacy Pi Kapp at Auburn University,  Alpha Iota Chapter)

In May 1961, as a Freshman, I was one of the first six initiated Founding Members of the newly organized Beta Phi Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. This created a great learning and personal growth opportunity in helping build the Chapter from the ground up, recruiting quality students, acquiring, furnishing, and managing a Chapter House, meeting/entertainment facility in downtown Greenville, etc.

On February 16, 1963, as the Chapter’s Archon (President), I was honored to accept Beta Phi’s Charter from the National President at the Chartering Banquet, making Beta Phi a full-fledged chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.

Fraternity life was a lot of hard work, but fun as well, and created friendships that have lasted a lifetime.
