My experience at what was then called East Carolina College extended through a BSBA (Bachelor of Science Business Administration) and an MBA (Master of Business Administration). During my time as a graduate student, I was pleased to serve as a graduate assistant for Dr. Buddy Zincone, professor of economics.
Unfortunately, at the time I was chosen as a brother in Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, my father passed away, and I was required to spend most weekends at home to take care of family business. Upon completion of my degrees at ECC and ECU, I taught for one year at Central Carolina Technical Institute (now Central Carolina Community College) in Sanford. After a year at CCCC, I went to the University of Georgia for a period of graduate study and teaching as a graduate student teacher of introduction to business courses.
At this point in my life, I convinced Martha Cotter to marry me and pulled off the best event of my life. Martha received her Master’s degree at the University of Georgia. In 1971, I began a career teaching at Fayetteville Technical Community College and taught there until my retirement in 1999.
After retiring from FTCC, I acquired a North Carolina Contractor’s license and started building houses. After I got rich building houses (Ha! Ha!), I retired a second time and am living a wonderful retirement in Sanford, NC.
I have two sons and one grandson, of whom I am very proud!
