Erwin Hall
The Erwin Building was originally constructed in 1952 to provide on-campus housing for faculty, but it is no longer used as a residential facility. It was designed by Eric G. Flannagan out of Henderson, NC. It was built on the former basketball court and has a Georgian architectural style. It was named for Clyde A. Erwin, longtime State Superintendent of Public Instruction and ex-officio chairman of ECU’s Board of Trustees. The building is a tribute to his leadership in expanding North Carolina’s public education system. Today, the Erwin Building is home to the Department of Communication, University College, and the PEN-PAL Project. (Building Histories, 2025)
