General Burnside's headquarters for Battle of Roanoke - Cyanotype #7
-
Description
-
Photograph taken during the 1911 Wright glider tests on the Outer Banks. One of the favorite tourist sites on Roanoke Island at the turn of the century was the Civil War headquarters of General Burnside who liberated the island from Confederate control from this once stately house on the western coast of the island. The individual in the photograph is not identified, but would most logically be Van Ness Harwood, the photographer.
