Mendenhall Student Center

Mendenhall Student Center opened in 1974 to serve a growing student body. It was named in honor of Cynthia Anne Mendenhall, ECU’s first Student Union Director. It was designed by Carter Williams of Raleigh, NC. The three-story facility included Hendrix Theatre, bowling lanes, game rooms, a crafts center, coffee house, lounges, gallery space for student artwork, and student-run radio station WZMB 91.3 FM. Its functions were later relocated to the Main Campus Student Center in 2019. (Building Histories, 2025)
