James Mauldin grew up in Jonesville, North Carolina. He was sent to Governor’s school while in high school where he met Lauren who would eventually lead him to ECU. Both he and Lauren attended Forsythe Technical Community College and both were accepted to ECU where Lauren’s sister was enrolled. James Mauldin enrolled in ECU in 2002. While at ECU, Mauldin was the news director and production director at WZMB and he drove for the student transit authority. He only missed one football game the entire time he was a student at ECU.

James Mauldin graduated in 2005 with a degree in communication. He now works for the financial aid department at ECPI College of Technology in Raleigh, North Carolina.
