Edward Bright spent his childhood in Chocowinity, North Carolina. After entering East Carolina Teachers College in the early 1940’s, Dr. Bright was Drafter in to the United States Army Air Corps in 1942, stationed at Fort Bragg, and served in Europe in World War II. After leaving the military, Bright returned to ECTC, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in education in 1948 and a Master’s degree in 1951.

After receiving his degrees Edward Bright spent his career as a high-school teacher and administrator in Aurora and Grifton, North Carolina. He later served as the Dean of Instruction at Pitt Community College.
