I chose this meme because it resembles one of the great impacts Covid had on aviation, as well as
my life. The meaning behind the meme is to display how much the aviation industry was impacted by
Covid, as well as the entire world. Many people rely on airplanes to travel, and without that, the entire
world was cutoff. Between the transition to online school, stores being closed, unable to see family and
friends, and not knowing what Covid was, it was a stressful time. At the beginning, I did everything the
same way. Wake up, get on my laptop for school, stare at a screen for 7 hours, then go on a walk, help
cook dinner, go to bed. It was draining. Not to mention, I lost my restaurant part-time job, so I really had
nothing to do.
I have been lucky enough to travel for most of my life. My mom is a flight attendant, and my dad
is a caterer, both for a major US airline. Aviation runs in my blood. I have travelled to many different
states, countries, and regions of the world, and that has led me to experience a wide variety of cultures.
Because of my parents' jobs, we can travel for free, so we have been extremely fortunate with the

destinations we have been able to go. I love travelling so much that I decided to pick up training to
become a commercial airline pilot. I started flying in November of 2020, but due to the cost, I had to pick
up two jobs while in school. Around February of 2021, I had enough money to finally start consistently
flying. I flew a couple times a week until mid-May, due to one of my mentor's passing away in a plane
crash. His flight school was shut down shortly after, so I had nowhere to fly. Luckly, one of the previous
instructors/mentors there let me borrow his plane so I could earn enough hours to do my solo, which is
where the instructor leaves the aircraft, and you fly the airplane round the pattern a couple times and
perform some takeoffs and landings with no supervision. I did my first solo on July 20th, 2021, then a
month later I went to college! Covid impacted my travel lifestyle, as well as my career path. It was
extremely hard for me to stay home, as I love taking day trips to places and hopping on an airplane and
going to a random destination. Covid impacted many jobs, but one job it has impacted the most is the
airlines. Many pilots and flight attendants were furloughed, as well as fired. Fortunately, this has opened
many opportunities for me. The airlines are still in such debt to pilots that they are years behind their hire
dates that they are hiring more people than they ever have before. The FAA has adjusted many
requirements, making more people applicable to the field, as well as airlines opening academies to train
and hire new pilots, starting from zero hours. After graduation, I plan to attend the United Airlines Aviate
Academy in Goodyear, Arizona to complete my training and get hired as an airline pilot!
In conclusion, Covid had a great impact on the entire world, and changed our lives. It brought
different opportunities, but it also taught us a lesson as well. We can never truly take anything for granted
because you never know when it will be taken away.
