This is a meme pertaining to the pandemic of covid 19. The picture says “Government:
We need to shut everything down for 30 days” at the top of the picture. The picture is of the two
main characters from the Disney movie frozen. The older sister Elsa has the caption “Extroverts”
under her and the younger sister Anna has the caption “Introverts” under her. Elsa has a scared
look on her face while Anna has an excited look. Since Anna is the introvert in this meme it is
implying that she is excited for isolation while Elsa is listed as the extrovert who is not excited
for isolation.
When searching for a meme for this assignment this one stood out for a variety of
reasons. Firstly, because of my love for the movie frozen. I have an older sister so the movie has
always been one that was relatable. The characters Elsa and Anna also describe my sister and I
very well. My sister is very introverted while I am extremely extroverted. That being said,
having to be in isolation for covid was much more difficult for me than it was for her. I
remember back in March of 2020 when they announced that we would be taking two weeks off
of school. At first I was thrilled until that also meant no contact with friends and that nothing was
open. Not long after two weeks turned into the rest of the school year and covid 19 was much
worse than anyone had thought.
Besides eating everything in my house, the hardest part of isolation was not being able to
be around people. I have always been the type that gets my energy from other people and it was
extremely hard being away from everyone. However, being stuck at home gave me a chance to
hangout with my family and spend time learning about myself. I grew up living on a farm so
during this time at home I spent a lot of time with my animals. One of my cows had a baby that I
had to bottle feed until it was old enough to eat on its own. That was one of the best things I got
to experience during this time. Along with all of that I also kept up with the tik tok trends. I did
arts and crafts with my cousins, made all different types of recipes with my mom, and even dyed
my hair pink for a short amount of time. As terrible as I thought isolation lockdown was, it
honestly got worse before it got better.
After isolation when they were still learning about covid things started to look up.
Summer time came around and things started to open back up. People forgot about it for a short
period of time. Then it was time for my senior year. I remembered all the seniors before me
complaining about not being able to do all the fun things. Little did I know mine would not be
much better. I went from classrooms full of 30 of my friends to 15 of us 6 feet apart with masks
on. Having to wear a mask was one of the weirdest parts for me. I couldn't hear people well, I
couldn't see peoples faces, and we even had to wear them playing sports for a short time.
Almost a year later in April of 2021 I was sitting in my last class of the day when my best
friend and I got pulled out of class by our softball coach. He then gave us the news that a
member of our team had tested positive for covid and since we had all been exposed we had to
quarantine for a week. This would mean we wouldn't be able to play our last ever game together.
It also meant that I would miss a week of school and have to test for my CNA later than the rest
of my class. At the time this was devastating news. I remember crying while walking down the
hallway with my principal to go tell my nursing teacher the news. After it was all said and done I
still got to test and pass my CNA exam just later than the rest of my friends. However, my best
friend and I never got to play our last softball game together. All of these things meant so much
to me at the time but made me realize everyone had their own struggles during the pandemic and
mine could have been a lot worse. I knew friends that lost loved ones from covid as well as other
struggles that were much worse than mine. However the struggles all still mattered the same and
the pandemic comes with many stories from many different people. I can certainly say that my
children will know all about the covid pandemic of 2020.
