‘Are you telling me an art student vampire couldn’t hit them with the “it may not be
reflective of my outward appearance, but it’s a reflection upon my EMOTIONAL self.”
Art school is 100% Raw Unfiltered Bullshit, that’s why I got an honors degree for writing
vampire porn’

a tumblr post by Tradgedyserise commented on by Eternalstrigoii: tragedy #290, a very
sad victorian looking vampire man can’t seem to paint a self portrait, has a mirror and
easel set up but both are blank, image seems to be done in ink and markers in a sepia
tone color pallet.
Makkaxchin has also commented on their own post about why they haven’t posted in a
while.
The Joke: The main joke of the post is that one of the first couple classes you take in
art school is a drawing class, and one of the most infamous assignments for these
classes is having to draw a self portrait with a mirror. Well, an art student who is a
vampire would have a hard time with that because they can't see themselves in the
mirror. The bigger joke comes from the comment on the original post, where the
commenter can’t believe that an art student wouldn’t at least be able to put a spin on

this limitation and get a good grade, especially since they were able to spin writing porn
about vampires, of all things, into a degree.
Reflection on the Meme and it’s meaning to me:
I chose this meme because it reminded me of trying to do art stuff for my classes during
the quarantine and later back on campus during the 2021 spring semester. Also
because for a majority of that time, and still a bit now, instagram was a big time filler and
I was also on a vampires/bats kick.
For me the point of the meme is to poke fun at how hard it is to do drawing homework
when you can’t seem to get started or inspired. Also, that the original commenter isn’t
wrong, and that it shouldn’t be that hard for the art-student vampire to at least figure out
a clever way to get around his problem.
However, from my experience during this pandemic, it really isn’t just that easy. A bit like
the subject of the meme’s no reflection problem, sometimes there were things that I
couldn't easily control that just kept me from doing the work in a timely manner. Stuff like
boredom, having chores, and not having defined personal time/boundaries made it hard
to work at home. And then things like stress, isolation, and lack of time management
skills made it hard to work at school. Yeah these are problems that can be creatively
worked around, but it took time to identify and strategize a way to do that. And that feels
hard and a bit impossible for some, kind of like asking a vampire to draw a self portrait
based on their missing reflection…
