This was created as an assignment for Susan Ludeke's ART 1910: Art Appreciation course. It was part of the Getty Museum Challenge, which was created as a way to keep people engaged during the pandemic. What I was trying to do was show that people like to wear the mask because it hides how they look on the outside when really true beauty is always going to be on the inside.

1. Hey Everyone! My name is Faith Lana and I'm from Wilmington, North
Carolina. I decided to use my camera for this one because I love taking
pictures of anything and everything. I play volleyball (not for ecu) and I also
did track and field. I actually got second place at the state championship! I
chose to use my older sister for this because she has dark hair like Mona
Lisa.
2. The process for me was pretty easy! I used one of my masks that I already
had because I didn't have any supplies to make one. Then I used my Nikon to take the
photo in my sister's apartment and I used an editing app on my computer to insert the
background image from The Mona Lisa. I did have some trouble with my SD card! It got
stuck inside my adapter and then I couldn't get it out. I figured it out though!
3. The artist that I decided to imitate was Leonardo Da Vinci. I've always been a
fan of his work and especially Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa was painted between 1503
and 1519 when he was living in Florence. I chose this piece because I love it and also
the way her smile was painted caused a lot of controversy, it was still so beautiful. In my
opinion she created the “smirk”.
4. I chose this option because now masks are “the new normal” and if this was painted
with a mask there wouldn't have been so much controversy! Also when people wear the
mask they can feel like it hides their beauty but it dont! To me beauty is within, even
though it can also be shown on the outside. I also chose my sister for this because with
and without makeup she is still so beautiful. She still is while wearing the mask. The
mask can be a metaphor for makeup and it can also be literal.
