Title
Creative Selfie With A Mask
Description
I made a mask of fabric and sewed manually a plastic cover so it could be painted on top. I used white acrylic paint to act as a base and then mixed orange, pink, and white acrylic paint to create a color as similar to my own skin as possible, then with a pencil I traced the design I wanted. I mimicked a Pop Art painting, using the artworks of Andy Warhol as a reference. I proceeded to paint the different colors according to the details I traced with the pencil. I dipped a toothpick in lighter shades of paint to create the dots characteristic to the Pop Art movement. I chose the Pop Art style for my mask because I think it is a lively and eye-catching, as well as it tends to incorporate everyday objects and turn them into pieces of art, thus I incorporated the ''mask'' since now it is considered an ''everyday'' object in our lives. For my pictures, I used my cellphone camera alongside with natural window lighting to try to catch as much detail as possible in my mask. I really enjoyed this project, painting was very calming and almost therapeutic, as well as it has been the most fun I had with a project since I entered college. I think this is a very creative way to express yourself and personalizing your mask according to your interests, it is a way of incorporating art and bringing a little bit of fun in these hard times, as well as you are not only expressing yourself but staying protected while at it. This was created as an assignment for Susan Ludeke's spring 2021 ART 1910: Art Appreciation course.
