Hello! I am a special education major and am really interested in catering education to
each student's needs. I am really passionate about giving every student the tools they
need to be successful and love to learn. In general, I am interested in nature, hiking,
hammocks, finding parks and cool places to be outside. I am also really interested in
sports, I played 4 varsity sports throughout high school. I have always just loved being
active and hate just sitting around. As for art, I do enjoy coloring and painting. It is one
of my go-to activities when I find myself overwhelmed and stressed. It is nice to just
relax and have no motives or plans besides have some paint and put it on paper. Other
than that I don't have an interest in art and artists, it had never been something I spent
much time learning about.
The process of creating this was pretty simple. I look around my house and found some
fake flowers that I was able to bend to form the shape that best matched the flowers
being held in the original artwork. Once I had the flowers I had to practice the
positioning of the hands, which was a bit more tricky. It felt very awkward. After some
practice, I felt confident in my ability to hold the flowers correctly, next up was the
background. I just used a white area background, since the original background was
white. I did find it difficult to set up the image, being able to prop up my phone and have
the camera behind me. It took me a few tries but I set up my camera with the time and
flash on while sitting on my desk then I reached my hands around the phone to take the
picture. Once I had the picture I used a photo editing app to cut out my hands and the
flowers to give a better while the background and make it more zoomed out.
Pablo Picasso made Petite Fleurs, also referred to as the bouquet of peace in 1958. He
did this to commemorate the peace demonstration in Stockholm Sweeden. I chose this
image because I really love flowers and I thought the simple nature of this piece that
holds greater value and meaning was really interesting. When looking through options
to recreate this was one I looked at and could see myself hanging up in my house. It
really felt like me. Which made it a really cool choice to try and recreate.
I really enjoyed this project, it is for sure one of the most lighthearted and creative
assignments I have had in a while which I liked. It was nice to have so much creative
freedom, although mine was a more simple choice, it was what I really connected with
and I enjoyed being able to express that. I value having freedom over assignments and
this project did that. It was a lot of fun to talk to my friends about and get their opinions
on which artwork I should choose. I think especially during the pandemic this is a super
cool idea since there are so many options to choose from and you can just be creative
and use what you have to recreate it is awesome. This was challenging as it is not the
type of art I typically do or like so it definitely challenged me to come up with an idea,
but I enjoyed the opportunity to used photography and imitate art in a creative way.
Overall, really enjoyed this assignment.
