Hi! My name is Makayla Parker, I am majoring in nursing, I am currently enrolled at Craven Community College ADN program and here at East Carolina in the aRIBN program for my BSN. With the healthcare industry continuously growing there is always a need for extra hands. I originally fell in love with the idea of working in the healthcare setting from my stepmom, she is a registered nurse, and I would always love sitting around listening to her tell us about her workdays and the things she got to experience as a nurse. I also loved the idea that I would be an individual who could help improve another person’s health/lifestyle. Some of my interests include cooking, reading, going to the beach, and when I was younger up until my senior year of high school, I loved playing softball. I have zero background in the art world, but I have always been intrigued by the idea of art itself.
For this process it took me a while to find an actual art piece that I wanted to recreate, there are so many beautiful pieces that I could have chosen but the one I picked stood out the most to me. For the red head wrap, I used one of my sweaters and had my mom place the sleeves in the shape of the original art piece. Other than the red sweater I placed makeup on to give my skin a softer matte look. I had my brother stand behind me with a black sheet and my mother took the picture for me.
The artist I chose was Taras Loboda and the painting I chose is “The Lady in Red’ from 2005. I chose this piece because not only was it aesthetically pleasing, but I also really like the details the artist put into this painting. You can see the different brush strokes, and the shadows that create depth, I think the best part about the painting though is the young woman’s face. This picture portrays her as an innocent-looking woman but the detail that takes place in the eyes/eyebrows shows that there is more than meets the eye of the viewer. I feel as if this is in a way a self-portrait because personally, I am not one to express many emotions let alone speak about the things that are going on in my life, looking at this picture I see someone who has a lot to say but choose the other route and that they can easily put up a front like their world isn’t crumbling down on them.
Honestly, I am sure I could’ve been more creative but I think looking past the portrait of this woman and creating a meaning of it for myself is where most of the creativity sparked for me.
I think that this is a very cool project you know, not only dealing with COVID and what is going on in the world today, but I think most to almost all of us are taking this online and will never meet each other outside of these discussion posts.
